    	abstract = "{Current trends in manufacturing focus on the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). The physical world and its virtual representation are increasingly converging, which leads to Cyber-Physical Production Systems (CPPS) in the manufacturing environment. CPPS synergize conventional production technology as well as ICT, allowing machines and products to exchange information, trigger actions and control other components autonomously. Therefore, seamless communication between physical objects of the shop floor and various computer systems is required. The Reference Architecture Model Industrie 4.0 (RAMI4.0) provided by the Plattform Industrie 4.0 specifies requirements for CPPS consisting of Industrie 4.0-components. In such systems, a major goal is to enable communication of I4.0 components among each other via industrial networks. For this purpose, RAMI4.0 suggests that each component has a virtual representation and uses Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) based communication with I4.0-semantics. This paper describes a systematic approach to OPC Unified Architecture (OPC UA) information model for representing the static and dynamic behavior of manufacturing systems. Moreover, the approach is generic in the sense that it can be used to define information models for multiple target technologies, such as OPC UA, MTConnect and others. It even allows to reuse large parts of the generated models for similar manufacturing utilities and various target technologies. Therefore, we first present a concept for system analysis and design by using the Unified Modeling Language (UML), which is widely accepted for interdisciplinary work. The information gathered is then transformed to OPC UA information models which serves as target technology in this paper. The purpose of this approach is to simplify the process of defining virtual representations of manufacturing systems. Applying the presented concept allows transformation of classic manufacturing systems into CPPS with SOA-based communication and semantically rich virtual representations of individual components. It is therefore well suited to meet the requirements specified by RAMI4.0.}"

    	abstract = "In the life cycle of buildings, plenty of different disciplines and companies are involved. Therefore, a unified information base for the whole building and its components and technical equipment is highly beneficial. One approach aiming at this goal is Building Information Modelling (BIM). There exist standards mostly focusing on architectural and building physical properties, like the Green Building XML schema (gbXML). A further improvement would be to include a description of the technical equipment and building automation components as well, and to make the resulting model accessible in a unified way. This paper aims at a holistic knowledge base for buildings providing views on static building and automation systems config- uration as well as runtime information, i.e., access to live values of datapoint originating in the building automation systems. This includes sensor values, setpoints, calculated or aggregated values as well as time series of historical values."

    	abstract = "{Currently, an increasing number of initiatives are observed aiming at enriching automation environment with modern Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). The desired solutions should lead to increasing and facilitating interoperability of production systems and their components. To realize this vision, a key component is an open and standardized communication platform. Meantime, OPC Unified Architecture (OPC UA) is accepted as communication solution, especially because of its capabilities to create extensible information models. As part of the ongoing research project OPC4Factory, semantically rich OPC UA interfaces based on specific information models for a robotized manufacturing cell are developed. In addition to the static hierarchical structure, the information model should also describe the dynamic behavior of the modeled system. State machines provide proven means to model the dynamic behavior of manufacturing machines. However, whether a transition of a state machine can be executed often depends on certain conditions. In UML, these conditions are reflected by guards. Unfortunately, a similar functionality is neither provided by the current OPC UA specification nor by companion standards. For this reason, an amendment to the OPC UA information model is introduced, enabling guards in OPC UA. Thereby, new object and reference types allow to model operations in an OPC UA server’s address space. Exposing this information has several advantages over hiding it in the server’s source code regarding the required implementation effort as well as the client’s possibilities to react to rejected transition requests.}",

To cope with this development, main car manufacturing companies and automotive suppliers established the AUTOSAR partnership back in 2003. Its main objective is to reduce development costs and to enhance cooperation between different companies by creating standards and specifications for automotive software applications. With the increasing number of ECUs and vision-based advanced driver assistance systems higher communication speeds than provided by nowadays state-of-the-art bus systems like CAN and FlexRay are desired. The tremendous success story of standard Ethernet has led to various enhancements for different industries to make its benefits also available for safety-critical and real-time applications. One of these enhancements is TTEthernet. In this paper we demonstrate and evaluate the integration of TTEthernet in AUTOSAR. We suggest how the AUTOSAR Ethernet stack can be partitioned to support mixed-criticality traffic and how different traffic types can be integrated on a single physical interface. Furthermore, we give an efficient implementation of the TTEthernet clock synchronization algorithm by utilizing state-of-the-art Ethernet hardware controller features. Finally, the TTEthernet implementation is compared to a standard Ethernet implementation as specified by AUTOSAR, with respect to computational and memory overhead.}",

    	abstract = "Nowadays, the variety of home and building automation technologies has led to a landscape with heterogeneous interfaces, communication protocols and devices. By the future establishment of the Internet of Things in this area with numerous IPv6-based end devices, the degree of automation and the resulting complexity will further raise. Besides highly efficient control and maintenance strategies, use case sce- narios like demand side management, load shifting, and energy feedback are future goals of building management systems. To this aim, not only building-inherent information sources for energy demand predictions but also external information concerning forecasts for more wealthy conditions and the production of renewable energy sources (e.g., solar or wind) as well as current energy market prices need to be taken into account. For reaching the ambi- tious goals regarding energy savings and smart consumption of renewable energy within the context of smart grids, a further interoperability problem needs to be solved."

OPC Unified Architecture (OPC UA) emerged as one of the most promising standards to create a unified view on the underlying process in cluding meta information as well. So as to know how exactly distinct datapoints are represented and addressed in a certain automation network standard informa tion models are created. By now, first steps towards information models for KNX have been made. This preliminary work will be enhanced by integrating meta information into the existing model. Since an information model only gives a description about the general scheme how KNX process data (i.e. KNX function blocks, group addresses, etc.) are represented and accessible, it cannot state any thing about the actual configuration of a distinct installation. Therefore, the types defined in KNX/OPC UA information model need to be instantiated in a way such that they map the actual configuration of the target KNX network. This work aims at using the XML export functionality of the ETS4 to transfer the configuration data of a distinct KNX installation to an OPC UA server."

By the use of smart cameras, dedicated safety or security-critical events that may lead to an alarm condition can be detected autonomously (e.g., safety events like fire or security events like glass break). Integrating CCTV systems into building automation systems provides the opportunity to react to critical events by, for example, informing the operator about the occurrence of such events, providing relevant video data, and most important concurrently initiating appropriate actions (e.g., smoke extraction in case of fire). This paper focuses on the integration of such smart camera systems into BACnet based networks. At first, a short introduction to BACnet and its interworking model is given. Afterwards, a possible way of integrating CCTV systems into BACnet is presented. The functionality of this model is shown by a proof-of-concept implementation which is also described in this paper.",

However, providing appropriate concepts to model information that can be accessed in a generic way are still missing. OPC Unified Architecture (OPC UA) is a powerful and promising standard that aims at solving this challenge. This work discusses an approach to map the interworking model of BACnet to OPC UA. Using the resulting information model BACnet applications can be represented in OPC UA and, thus, be accessed by OPC UA clients in a standard and well-defined way.",

This is especially true for KNX systems, since the upcoming opportunity to use IP as native KNX medium provides new possibilities for integrating Web services into KNX. One of the most important technologies within this field is OPC UA. Therefore, this paper is dedicated to OPC UA in KNX. Services from the safety and security domain are typically provided by separated, application specific subsystems. An integration with the core HBA systems is done (if at all) at the management level. Nowadays, the rising desire to integrate security-critical services even at the field level can be observed. The extension of the application domain of HBA systems therefore demands the underlying communication system to be reliable and robust against malicious manipulations. An analysis of existing technologies, however, exposes that they do not fulfill the additional requirements yet. The main reason is that the systems were developed at a time when security was considered as a side-issue at best. Hence, these systems rely on physical isolation and ``Security by Obscurity''. This is obviously unacceptable within modern HBA systems since preventing physical access to the network by isolation is not always possible (e.g., WLANs) and ``Security by Obscurity'' is a technique that (if at all) provides only temporary protection. Thus, the development of a comprehensive security concept is of utmost importance. This dissertation is focused on providing mechanisms for secure communication in HBA networks thus counteracting network attacks. Based on a security threat analysis, requirements and challenges for secure communication are identified. After an overview of state of the art technologies, a generic approach for securing communication in HBA networks is introduced. This approach uses the concept of secure communication relationships where communication entities like devices or control applications are able to securely join and leave these relationships. Additionally, a framework that implements this security approach based on a multi-protocol stack is described. To prove the feasibility, the proposed security concept is formally evaluated and a prototype implementation is presented.",

    	abstract = "Building Automation Systems (BAS) aim at improving control and management of mechanical and electrical systems in buildings. It is the task of Sensors, Actuators and Controllers (SACs) to interact with the physical environment and perform measurement and control tasks. In building automation networks they, typically, consist of a network interface and a microcontroller (MCU) where an application specific hardware is attached. In a similar way, the software may be split into a system software part providing basic functionality and a (customizable) user application (UA) dealing with the attached hardware. Within KNX this concept is well known, as customized application modules are connected via the physical external interface to standardized bus attachment units. However, KNX UA development traditionally required profound hardware knowledge. This paper presents an approach to leverage user application development. With limited hardware resources of SACs in mind, an embedded virtual machine provides a lean environment for Java based user applications. Interfacing to KNX and the specific hardware is done by a well-defined Java user application programming interface. In addition, a management interface allows to download and configure UAs inside the virtual machine. The programming concept, configuration and management issues as well as the workflow are described in detail. As proof of concept for SACs supporting our approach two hardware platforms have been chosen: a stripboard equipped with an ATMega168 MCU and KNX connection via the Freebus project, and KNXcalibur, a Fujitsu MCU based board connected to KNX via TP-UART. The contribution is rounded up by a first performance analysis.",

They require the underlying control system to be reliable and robust against malicious manipulations (security attacks) to fulfil their purpose. Since KNX was not designed for use in security critical environments, a security extension to KNX called EIBsec has been developed. Today such systems typically follow a hierarchical distributed approach. While control networks interconnect smart sensors and actuators, a backbone network provides the infrastructure for management tasks. Devices interconnecting these networks have a strategic role. Especially in the home domain, the integration of various control and data networks is essential for maximum benefit. The European Installation Bus (KNX/EIB) is a popular control network designed to enhance electrical installations in buildings. It uses a proprietary twisted pair (TP) medium to interconnect devices like smart light switches and dimmers. The objective of this thesis is to design an embedded and versatile platform for ongoing development in the area of home and building automation systems with a focus on KNX/EIB TP. Besides two KNX/EIB TP interfaces, it provides RS-232, USB and Ethernet connectivity. The platform moreover has sufficient processing power and storage, enabling it to act as a ``smart router'' or gateway. The thesis first presents a classification of control network devices. It then discusses the hardware and software requirements for the desired platform.
